Free Software VS FreeWare VS Open Source

>> Sunday, May 17, 2009

In the computer world, will often hear that the third term. But so is a question whether we really understand the difference between the third term? Because the third term is in fact the differences are very deep. Often we mix adukkan-third, and the "ideology" is the third license in the above problem always free of charge, the fact is not always the case.

Freeware: A software berlicense Freeware, means that this software is available free of charge, "Zero Dollar Price." Users can freely use this software without having to buy a license from the manufacturer. However, a freeware not provide freedom for the user to make modifications to the software, and average does not include a freeware program in the source code distribution packages. There are so many freeware circulating current. A course: Yahoo Messenger, Winamp, 7-Zip, etc..

Open Source vs Free Software

Maybe in between Freeware, Open Source, Free Software is most often make rancu is Open Source and Free Software. In many cases we always consider Open Source and Free Software is free of charge, but the fact Open source and Free Software is not based on price, but more to the availability of the Source Code of the program and also the right to modify and develop as needed.

To further facilitate, 2 OS sample is taken from the famous second license:
1. The FreeBSD Open Source
2. Linux Free Software

FreeBSD is Open Source because it includes the program code, but source code is not immediately we can change our own hearts. Because of the availability of source code is intended to be OS software developers can develop software with the OS more easily.

Linux is Free Software, but is written as if the term is not free to the price, but availability and freedom (free) source code and then we can freely modify as needed, so we saw many Linux variants, sepert: Mandriva Linux, Ubuntu, Red Hat, Linux and even taste like BlankOn Indonesia.

The price, FreeBSD is distributed free of charge, although titled Linux and Free Software is not all variannya distributed free of charge, call it Red Hat, Linux variant this requires users to purchase licensenya, whereas FreeBSD is not even Free Software, but distributed for free without having to buy a license anything.

Once again do not terkecoh or even confused with the term Open Source and Free Software, because the second term did not refer to the price, but the freedom to use the Source Code and change it.
